Pēteris Kāpostiņš

Educator, public figure, recipient of the Order of the Three Stars.

Born on July 4, 1882, in "Rūcēni", Ļaudona Parish. After graduating from the Baltic Teachers' Seminary in 1904, he worked at the Lielstraupe school. In 1921, he was appointed head of the Līvānu Primary School, where he taught mathematics and geography. He served as the head of the Līvānu Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, church organist, congregation choir director, head of the district youth guard ("mazpulki"), deputy of the Līvānu City Council, and principal of the Līvānu Secondary School (1944–1945). Deported to Mordovia in 1949. Died in exile on October 16, 1950.

Professor Uldis Krastiņš

Professor of the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Latvia, Dr. habil. iur.

Professor Uldis Krastiņš was born in "Kalnvirsa", Ļaudona Parish, Madona District. After graduating from Zasa Secondary School, he began his studies in 1952 at the Faculty of Law of the Latvian State University. Since 1978, he has worked at the Faculty of Law, University of Latvia, and from 1985 to 2006, he headed the Department of Criminal Law. One of his main research interests is the criminal law protection of the environment. The professor has more than 270 publications.
